| The dog you have aquired is a Fila Brasileiro, only native dog of Brazil. It originates from the accidental breeding of Bloodhounds, English Mastiff and Old English Bulldogs. It was then bred for its noted qulities as an exelent cattle herder, its courage and protective instinct, as well as its impressive size, strength and agility. Filas are also useful for hunting and tracking large animals such as jaguars (oncas) and boars. For these reasons, the Fila Brasileiro is a very unique and capable farm dog. However, it also has a place in homes due to its unsurpassed protective nature and amazing loyalty to its owners. The same loving nature makes it very jealous of sharing its family and territory with others. In Brazil this is called "ojeriza", wich means an innate dislike and distrust towards strangers. Filas should only be handled by the people that live and control the dog. As soon as a Fila starts to mature it will show its protectiveness, galant valor, and alertness to all that occurs within its domain. There is no need to arrouse the protective instinct of the Fila through training. Because of this distinct temperament, however, Filas must be socialized and obedience trained. This will assure you that your dog recognizes the many situations in which there is no threat and that you may be in control of its actions. It will amaze you how fast and well the Fila learns to distinguish between different encounters with strangers, friends and relatives, showing different degrees of tolerance but never enough to be handled nor left without the true owners supervision. As you will notice, Filas require space to play and plenty of activity with a good feeding plan, that will ensure a fit and happy dog that will reach a healthy old age. FEEDING Filas should be fed 2 to 3 times a day. Its better that the dog eats a small amount many times a day rather than one large ration. It should not be forced to exercise until at least 10 month old, normal play and walking is sufficient. Avoid slippery floors and slippery stairs, since its heavy frame can be injured during its development. Filas dont stop growing until their second or third year. Keep your Fila lean and strong. High protein foods with no soy are good; fried eggs, chicken and bones are exelent supplements to their diet. This contract guarantees that your Fila Brasileiro is healthy and has had its necessary shots and dewormings to date by a licensed veterinarian. That the parents are both healthy and correct in type and temperament. I will respond to claims you have of a sick dog within 5 days of arrival as long as it was verified by a licensed veterinarian. The guarantee also responds to all dogs that show a less than FAIR rating of Hip and/or Elbow Dysplasia at the age of 24 months.
